Copies of endorsements by The Adjutant General, giving file reference to the volume of Registers of Letters Received in which the original communication is entered, the name of the person or office to which the document was transmitted, and the date of endorsement. Often there will be several endorsements copied for one letter and references are included to other volumes of Endorsements in which related information appears. File notations are given in instances where the original communication was returned to the office for filing. Prior to 1850 endorsements are entered in the volumes of Letters Sent.
